Short bio:

Amedeo is a research scientist in Artificial Intelligence at CNR and Group Leader at ISTC, with a PhD in Engineering Computer Science. He has founded and coordinates activities of the Laboratory on Planning and Scheduling Technologies (PST Lab). He has conducted research in several AI areas like Multi-Agent Systems, Intelligent Human-Computer Interaction, Planning & Scheduling and always pursued the synthesis of innovative Decision Support Systems. His work focuses on the integration of planning and scheduling in software architectures, the use of constraint programming for specialized tasks such as temporal and resource reasoning, the synthesis of planning and scheduling heuristics, the interactive solution of complex planning problems. His work in Artificial Intelligence also emphasizes the real-world aspects of automated reasoning, obtaining visible results in planning for space domain, technology-based support to older people, integration of AI techniques in Robotics. He is currently interested in the so-called Human-Aware AI Systems. He is also interested in studying the implications of the AI huge progresses in the life of everyday people, in particular for monitoring the impact on people work, on the ethical redistribution of revenues, and, in the large, on the pursuing of a better life for fragile people.

My best professional achievement:

Amedeo had been always interested in heuristic techniques for solving complex scheduling problems, and in creating tools for timeline-based planning. His group has synthesized MEXAR an AI tool to plan the activities of the Mars Express space mission. This is in daily use from 2004 to nowadays at the European Space Agency. He has also been promoting the use of social robotics in the home of older people experimenting the long term use, evaluating the impact on frail people in ecological settings (e.g., see the RoboCare, and GiraffPlus project). Community Services: From 2013 to 2017 Amedeo has been President of AI*IA, the Italian Association for Artificial Intelligence. He is currently Member of the board of directors and Vicepresident of AI*IA. Amedeo is currently CNR representative in the Italian Committee for Bioethics (http://portalebioetica.palazzochigi.it/en).
