Short bio:

Federico Falcini has a degree in Physics and a PhD in Earth Science, with a particular focus on theoretical oceanography with a particular focus on transport processes of physical, biogeochemical and sedimentary tracers. He currently works at the National Research Council (CNR-ISMAR, Italy) on coastal remote sensing for environmental studies, pursuing also his original research on sediment dynamics and deep thermohaline circulation. During his experience in USA), as a post-doctoral fellow, he theoretically described different river sedimentation patterns in coastal environments and he coordinated a project for an ongoing interdisciplinary effort, aimed to learn how the flooding Mississippi River discharges water and where it deposits its sediment load from remote sensing. He also works on the role of non-locality versus non-linearity in the sediment transport models by using a fractional calculus approaches. Since 2015 he his involved in the national implementation of the EU Marine Strategy Framework Directive, by participating and contributing to national and European technical boards that aim to achieve a better definition of the marine Good Environmental Status and thus for the related effective and efficient monitoring programmes, suitable for the complex marine system.

My best professional achievement:

To provide a mechanistic model that explained processes for the Mississippi River Delta restoration.

My best personal achievement:

To reach a sweet equilibrium and integration among science, family, personal life (from hiking to singing).
