Short bio:
My best professional achievement:
The Pragmatic approach to the study of probabilistic thinking, decision-making, insight problem solving, according to which language and thought share a unitary cognitive activity, addressed by an interpretative function, with important implications for biases and heuristics in judgment and decision making (See Cognitive Unconscious and Human Rationality, 2016 -MIT Press).
My best personal achievement:
Laura Macchi is full professor of Psychology of Thinking, Decision Making and Communication at the University of Milano-Bicocca, where she has been Coordinator of the Ph.D. in Psychology at the Department of Psychology and Coordinator of the Degree in Psychological Sciences and Techniques. She spent part of her PhD at the University of California, Berkley (tutor D. Kahneman) and Stanford U. (A. Tversky). She carried out experimental studies that result in numerous international publications in probabilistic reasoning, decision-making, and insight problem solving. She developed a pragmatic approach showing the influence of communication on thinking and decision making. She has been involved in many international research projects and is reviewer of the main international journals in Cognitive Psychology. She recently taught Nudge and communication in public policies at SNA and Max Planck Institute of Berlin. Her last two books: “Cognitive Unconscious and Human Rationality” (MIT Press, 2016); “Insight and Creative Problem Solving” (Taylor, 2018).
